You can join online courses to learn about various aspects of Quakerism.

If you are new to Quakers or just curious, Woodbrooke is the main place to join online courses. Some courses are free, others ask for a small fee, with a reduction for younger people. The Woodbooke website has a page with more information, including a list of courses particularly for people exploring Quakerism.

  • Essentials of Quakerism

    September 2025, Every Thursday, 7.00pm - 8.30pm (UK time)

    £25 (Discounts for young people) | Online | Series

    This course, designed particularly for those new to the Quaker way, will introduce the basic and essential elements of Quakerism. The expectation of a transforming encounter with the Divine (however we describe it), the use of a distinctive form of collective worship to nurture that encounter; discernment; and witness – the life that emerges as an outcome of our faith. There will be plenty of time for discussion and questions and a forum for additional conversation between the sessions.

  • Enquiring Into: Doubt and Questioning

    Thursday 18 September 2025 19:00-21:00 (UK time)

    One of a bi-monthly series of using the Philosophy for Communities (P4C) method. This session will use creative, critical, collaborative and caring thinking to explore ‘Doubt and Questioning’.

  • The Quaker Spiritual Path: From Discomfort to New Life

    Monday 22 September - Sunday 19 October 2025

    A chance to explore the shape and orientation of the Quaker spiritual journey, following a pathway from a sense of discomfort to an experience of new life. Along the way, a range of Quaker spiritual writers will act as our guides.

  • Exploring Britain Yearly Meeting

    Thursday 9 October - Thursday 16 October 2025

    How does Britain Yearly Meeting work? In this course, we will explore how individual Friends, local and area meetings, Meeting for Sufferings, and Yearly Meeting all come together as one body, including what to expect at our annual gathering.

  • Becoming Friends

    Thursday 23 October - Thursday 11 December 2025

    19:00-21:00 (UK time) every Thursday.

    Becoming Friends aims to help provide the next stage of learning and support for newcomers who have started exploring Quakerism—whether by attending Quaker meetings online or in person—or those who are curious about taking this step.

  • The Roots of the Quaker Way

    Wednesday 29 October - Tuesday 9 December 2025

    The live Zoom sessions are at 19:30-20:30 (UK time) on Tuesdays 11 November, 25 November and 9 December

    What were the religious roots of the Quaker way? How were early Friends influenced by their religious context? This course will explore the connections between Quakers and other radical religious groups from the Middle Ages to the English Revolution.
